The Dead Season by Alan Berlow
Anyone who responds to the Philippines setting in Sugarland should check this out. It's a dark, dark account by a former NPR reporter of corruption, poverty, murder, and a police state and how it call came together in the late 80s early 90s. One of those books you can't put down.
